“As part of the Trade Centre UK Community Engagement Programme, our brand ambassador Mike Doyle recently visited Rotherham Foodbank, a vital local service helping people in crisis. The visit offered an inspiring insight into the incredible work being done to support individuals and families who are struggling; some finding it difficult to make it from one payday to the next.
Mike received a fantastic welcome from Victoria Morris, Service Manager for Rotherham Foodbank, and met almost all the dedicated volunteers who keep the service running every day. He described the experience as “very humbling”, adding that it was remarkable to see how much care and effort goes into helping local people.
Located just a short walk from The Trade Centre UK Rotherham, the foodbank’s warehouse and distribution centre form the heart of their operation. Mike learned first-hand how food donations are received, sorted, and distributed, and saw the incredible level of organisation and teamwork that ensures no donation goes to waste.
Victoria shared how the foodbank does far more than provide emergency food parcels. It offers wraparound care, connecting people with agencies that can help them address the root causes of hardship. This includes debt advice, mental health support, and access to local welfare services, giving people not just immediate relief, but also a pathway to immediate relief, but also a pathway to longer-term stability.
As the Trussell Trust, which supports Rotherham Foodbank, powerfully states:“If you keep pulling drowning people out of the river, eventually you need to go upstream to see why they’re falling in.”
This approach reflects the foodbank’s commitment to holistic support, addressing both urgent needs and the wider issues that lead to crisis in the first place.
Victoria expressed her gratitude for the recent donation from Trade Centre UK, saying: “We are incredibly grateful to Trade Centre UK for donating these funds to us. It will go directly towards supporting our community and you will never fully appreciate the good it does for so many people.”
